PRESS RELEASE TEMPLATE
The Headline Should Be Just One or Two Lines Long and Get To The Point. We’d Prefer If You Didn’t Have Every Letter in Capitals - Just the First Letter of Each Word or in Regular Type.
The sub heading/summary should give a summary of what the release is announcing in the form of a normal sentence. If you do not fill in the summary box on the submission form we will then take the first 300 characters of the release. It is this part of the press release that will appear on the front page of Press Release Ireland and also on the category pages.
County, COUNTRY – 20 Mth 2005, We will fill the out the county, Country and date from form you submit, so you do not need to repeat these in the press release itself. The opening sentence should grab the reader’s interest by giving them the most important information right off the bat. It should be able to stand on its own, regardless of whether or not the recipient has read the headline or sub heading.
The next few paragraphs should answer the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of your announcement. It should be clear, concise and devoid of clichés.
Sentences should be relatively short and free of jargon, exaggerations or unsubstantiated claims. Paragraphs should be only a few sentences long to make them more readable. Quotes can be used to give colour to a press release, but avoid bland statements from company principals.
Be sure to include all relevant information, including the price of the product/service if applicable. Don’t leave out key information in the hope that a journalist will call you back for it – they’re more likely to throw your work aside.
You should have a paragraph explaining what your company/organisation does and how it ranks in its field or what makes it different from its rivals.
The least pressing information should be at the end because most recipients probably won’t get beyond the first paragraph.
You can upload pdf’s and images with your release - these are useful for journalists to complete their story without having to chase you for images.
It is important that you fill out the contact information when submitting the release. We will place this on the RHS of the press release page. You can also include your contact information in the body of the release if you wish. Make sure that the journalist has a number of options to get in touch with you if they wish, including snail mail and your fax number.
