Co. Dublin, Ireland — 14 Dec. 2009

Irish mobile users can now have their spoken voicemail converted to text and sent to them by SMS and Email.

Called VoiceTexts, it’s the first voicemail to text service in Ireland.

Intended for professionals, business men, self employed and others, who need to limit their time spent listening to, and taking notes from, multiple voicemail messages every day.

VoiceTexts users don’t have to go through numerous voicemails to get the one that really matters. They can see immediately who each call was from, and what the call was about.

Once read, messages can be easily replied to, forwarded and saved.

They also get messages by email, so they can store and retrieve vital phone numbers and addresses without resorting to paper and pen.
If required they can download and listen to the original spoken voicemail.

A voice memo function allows registered users dictate their own messages and have the resulting text in their email box almost immediately.

Around the world, millions of people subscribe to similar Voicemail services and VoiceTexts is expected to be just as popular here in Ireland.

A free trial is available at www.voicetexts.com which offers voicemail transcriptions to SMS and email for 1 week.

Subscription prices start at €8.99 per month which includes the first 20 messages. Thereafter completed messages cost between 20 cent and 28 cent depending on the subscription type.

The system uses a unique combination of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) software and human operators.
All voicemail messages are processed through the ASR system before an operator can view the results.
Foreign words, unusual names and places are particularly difficult for ASR systems. Mumbled sentences, and bad connections can reduce the accurately considerably.
Operators don’t type the text messages and only intervene when the automatic system can’t accurately transcribe the voicemail.

VoiceTexts is the only service which supplies an expressive tone to transcriptions. If a caller is irate, stressed or happy, the text can indicate the mood of the caller.

VoiceTexts is completely secure. All voicemails are encrypted and operators see no personal details related to any messages being transcribed.
