Co. Limerick, Ireland — 30 Jun. 2009

Shelbourne Park has been named as the top greyhound stadium in Ireland at the 2009 Sports Betting Awards.

The Dublin venue overcame stiff opposition from seven other nominated stadia including Harolds Cross, also in Dublin; Curraheen Park in Cork; Kilcohan Park in Waterford; The Kingdom Greyhound Stadium in Tralee; Mullingar, Newbridge and Dundalk stadiums.

The award was determined by a panel of judges including RTE’s Con Murphy, Trevor Welch of TV3 and boxer Bernard Dunne.

“This is great recognition of the facilities and the entertainment which we offer to many thousands of people week in, week out,” said Shelbourne Park General Manager Paddy Ryan. “Running a stadium requires striking the right note for owners and trainers who race their dogs with us, and for local people, parties and overseas visitors who are looking for a great night out at a reasonable cost. It is their response each night that is the best indicator of a job well done but an award such as this is welcome recognition of the effort that goes in from everyone involved at the stadium.”

“The mix of long, sunny summer evenings, and our new TV advertising campaign has lifted our numbers in June and we are looking forward already to the Paddypower.com Irish Greyhound Derby which gets underway in early August.”
