Betting on the Irish Greyhound Tote cast a ray of Christmas cheer last week as festive punters bet and won more in a single week than they had ever done before. A total of €1, 436,332 bet across the seventeen greyhound tracks throughout the country and online at www.igb.ie. The previous weekly record was €1,334,320 set 2007.
“Advance bookings were at an all time high as revellers sought the best value and the most fun for their Christmas blow outs,” said Patricia Griffin, Head of Tote at the Irish Greyhound Board. “Friday night’s rollover Jackpot at Harolds Cross was a big contributor as well and while there has been plenty of gloom around in the run up to Christmas, revellers at the track were willing to put that to one side and have a good time.”
“We are looking forward to keeping the party going with a lot of top class racing action over the Christmas and New Year period.”
